Description | NEW PALTZ - The village has a new mayor.
Terry Dungan, a Democrat who ran on the Village Unity Party, beat Mayor Jason West, who ran on the People's Party, by 144 votes.
Dungan, a SUNY New Paltz graduate, said the first thing he intends to do in office is to establish strong contact with the students.
"The first thing I have to do is to meet with the newly elected president of the student association executive board," Dungan said. "One of my primary goals is to create a liaison between student government and the village government, for better communication between the two."
West could not be reached for comment Tuesday night.
"I was really gung-ho for West when he first ran," Judy Swallow of New Paltz said. "The sadness with Jason is the fame, perhaps, got in the way of some of the issues." |
