Description | Amber waves of grain. Purple mountain majesties.
The words make a nice line in our alternative national anthem. They might also be worth singing in the war rooms of Kentucky gubernatorial campaigns where strategies and TV spots are born.
The Cumberlands right now are blossoming out of winter's death and into a glorious spring with a lot of purple because redbuds actually are more purple than red. Western Kentucky, being flatter, has those amber waves of agriculture.
It was Democratic candidate Steve Beshear's energy platform that set my mind on the east's mountains and the west's fields. Campaign platforms are illusions, so don't watch the magician's hands too closely. You'll spot the trick, which is to make the usual appear bold. |
