Description | Sen. Paul Simon’s daughter, now city councilwoman, looks to be next Carbondale mayor

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Sheila Simon has come a long way since her father — popular U.S. senator and former presidential hopeful Paul Simon — told her as a teenager to say a few words during a political picnic.
“Thanks for the hot dogs,” she recalls muttering in what became her first speech — and not a bad one, she submits, considering she had no time for jitters.
Since then, she said, “public speaking has been pretty natural for me.” Now 45, Simon wonders if politics will come as easily. |
