Description | TRENTON — State Sen. Bill Gormley, the dominant political figure in Atlantic County and one of the most influential lawmakers in New Jersey, will announce this morning that he will not seek re-election.
Rumors have circulated for months that the 60-year-old Republican would not run for office again when his term expires in November. Gormley will make his announcement at a news conference scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Statehouse.
Although Gormley declined to make a public comment Tuesday, he privately told numerous state and county leaders of his intentions this week. Among them was Assemblyman Frank Blee, R-Atlantic, whom Gormley will support to serve as his replacement. |
