Descriptionfrom the article:

(Charlotte Mayor Pat) McCrory, a Republican, is often rumored as a successor to U.S. Rep. Sue Myrick, R-N.C., of Charlotte, but she says she plans to run for a sixth term in 2004, blocking that path for now.

...

Myrick, 62, sits at the skinny end of the funnel. When she first ran for Congress in 1994, the former Charlotte mayor pledged to serve only three two-year terms, assuming that term-limits legislation passed.

But that proposal fizzled after Republicans took control of Congress. Now, Myrick says she'll leave when she's ready -- or when voters in her heavily Republican district kick her out.

"You know, I've been in politics a long time," she said. "And I've never looked at politics where I want someone else to leave their job so I can have their seat."
