Description | By KIMBERLY DURNAN / The Dallas Morning News
Riding a trend that began four years ago, Democrats have turned the tide in Dallas County, rejecting a high-profile GOP candidate for district attorney, kicking incumbent county judge Margaret Keliher to the curb and choosing dozens of Democrats for judicial posts.
The excitement still was resonating Wednesday morning at Lucky’s Cafe in Oak Lawn, traditionally a Democratic stronghold, where locals ate eggs, drank coffee and absorbed the election results.
Diners applauded when restaurant regular Emily Tobolowsky arrived. Ms. Tobolowsky, a Democrat and commercial litigator, was just elected judge of Civil District Court 298.
“I’m not surprised that Democrats made significant inroads,” she said over a fruit cup and coffee. “The trend was evident from the demographics. Dallas is the first county in Texas to become Democratic. Harris County is one or two elections cycles away.” |
