Description | They could be considered the Invisible Seven.
They are the background players in the political drama that stars Democratic U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez and Republican challenger Tom Kean Jr.
They are New Jersey's seven independent or third-party U.S. Senate candidates, running under slogans such as "Poor People's Campaign," "God We Trust," "Solidarity, Defend Life," and "Legalize Marijuana."
"I am trying to get the word out that there is an alternative to Menendez and Kean," said Leonard Flynn, the Libertarian Party hopeful, a frequent candidate for public office. "You don't have to settle for these clinkers."
While Menendez and Kean campaign full time, most of the independents can't quit their day jobs.
Edward Forchion, the pro-marijuana activist known to his supporters as "Weedman," comments on issues as the 18-wheeler he drives for a living highballs across Indiana. Angela Lariscy, the soft-spoken Socialist Workers Party candidate, can campaign only after finishing her job as a sewing machine operator in Elizabeth. |
