Description | Of all the campaign issues in 2006, the one that arguably affects Alaskans the most each day is also the one that can give a governor fits.
It’s the twin budgets.
How often roads get plowed, whether additional classes get taught, how often criminals get prosecuted, which communities will get new buildings — the operating and capital budgets lay out these and hundreds of other items reflective of a governor’s priorities and the sometimes difficult choices that ensue.
Each of the three main candidates for governor in Tuesday’s election has a distinct fiscal approach for assembling those budgets. And each would see the state using the additional millions in oil revenue in a different manner. |
