DescriptionSensing that Republican Thomas H. Kean Jr. could win in Democratic New Jersey, national GOP officials are pouring $3 million into fresh advertising, trying to woo late-deciding voters in the contentious U.S. Senate race.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee began airing a statewide TV ad on Friday that links Menendez to corruption - an allegation that has been a Kean campaign theme.

New Jersey's tight race could mean control of the Senate for the victorious party. New Jersey hasn't elected a Republican U.S. senator since 1972, but Kean, a state senator and son of a popular former governor, has been running strongly in polls.
