Description | Ten Prince George’s County Democrats crossed party lines Monday to support Republican Lt. Gov. Michael Steele’s race against Rep. Ben Cardin, D-Md., for Maryland’s junior Senate seat.
Those endorsing Steele, who is black and a native of Prince George’s, include all five black members of the County Council as well as Wayne Curry. In 1994, Curry was the first black man ever elected to lead Prince George’s as county executive. Several businessmen and former Gov. Parris Glendening’s chief of staff also endorsed Steele.
Curry called the endorsement announcement at a Largo cafe historic and said Steele is “a good man with a good plan,” according to a statement released by Steele’s campaign. |
