Description | AUSTIN -- Democratic gubernatorial candidate Chris Bell's campaign collected $175,000 this week from four major donors, helping to keep Bell's ads on television several more days, a campaign spokeswoman said Thursday.
Those donations and other smaller ones will help Bell buy more ad time and expand his reach in some television markets, including South Texas, said spokeswoman Heather Guntert, who wouldn't divulge other details.
The four large donations came from Richard Laminack, a lawyer who gave $100,000; Tim Ewing, an investor who donated $25,000; Lee Fikes, an oil company executive who gave $25,000; and Terralynn Swift, the widow of Houston energy executive Earl Swift, who gave $25,000 in her husband's memory, Guntert said.
Earl Swift donated $100,000 to the Bell campaign shortly before he died of cancer in May. |
