DescriptionLondon: David Cameron's leadership is facing a crisis of confidence after three new polls showed the Tory revival has stalled.

The Conservative leader's personal ratings have slumped and his party risks being overtaken by Labour, according to a survey in the Financial Times.

Another poll, meanwhile, claimed that Gordon Brown was more popular among the critical groups of "swing voters" who are regarded as key to an election victory.

The Tories are also less trusted to handle taxation than they were at the 2005 general election, a poll in the Daily Telegraph said.

The triple whammy came as a blow to Cameron who had hoped to boost his popularity at his party conference. His allies said the results were not surprising, and insisted there would be no change in his strategy of shifting to the centre ground.
