Description | A state judge ruled Thursday that a proposed ballot question that bans gay marriages and bars state and local governments from offering marriage-like legal status to unmarried couples can stay on the November ballot.
The ruling by a Maricopa County Superior Court judge is a big win for social conservatives and could help Republican turnout in other key elections, including races for governor, U.S. Senate and Congress.
Conservative and evangelical Christian groups back the gay marriage ban and that could help Republican Sen. Jon Kyl and Scottsdale Congressman J.D. Hayworth's re-election efforts and help the winner of the GOP primary for governor challenge Democratic Gov. Janet Napolitano. |
