Description | Democratic officials on Tuesday chose an aide who has worked for U.S. Rep. Lane Evans since he was first elected to Congress in 1982 as the party's nominee to replace the retiring congressman, who has been slowed by Parkinson's disease.
Phil Hare, 57, called his overwhelming selection by precinct committeemen "sort of bittersweet."
"I'd trade with Lane today," Hare said. "I wish this was not happening. In a perfect world I would not be here."
Hare will square off in November against Republican nominee Andrea Zinga, a former television anchor who lost to Evans by 21 percentage points in 2004. |
