DescriptionHELENA — Former Gov. Judy Martz said Thursday she misses the Montanans she served as governor, her staff and National Guard soldiers, but doesn’t miss “getting beat up” by the print media.

Martz, a Republican who returned home to Butte after completing her term in office in early January 2005, spoke to Hometown Helena, a civic group. It was one of her first public speeches in Montana since leaving office.

The former governor said she’s been as busy the past 18 months at home as she was during her four years as the state’s chief executive.

“Of all the things that I miss, I miss the people,” Martz said. “I miss the soldiers. I haven’t stopped praying for them.”

She also said how much she missed her team — her loyal Cabinet and staff — saying that everyone was treated equally and everyone’s advice was respected.

Martz acknowledged she misses the opportunity a governor has to make positive changes for Montana and its citizens.
