Description | BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - State Auditor Betty Montgomery dropped out of the crowded GOP field of candidates for governor on Tuesday, saying she is unwilling to run an attack campaign to try to win the upcoming Republican primary.
She decided to seek her old job of attorney general instead after her campaign recently completed a poll showing her trailing Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell and current Attorney General Jim Petro, she said at a news conference in Bowling Green, where she began her career as a prosecutor.
The three GOP candidates already had been critical one another, and Montgomery said the party infighting likely will get worse in the coming months before the May primary.
"I don't win that way," said Montgomery, who had tried to position herself as a moderate Republican who would lead responsibly. |
