Description | Former Gov. Jerry Brown is toying with the idea of running for governor to succeed his former chief of staff, Gov. Gray Davis, on the ballot of the Oct. 7 recall election.
Brown, now mayor of Oakland, has floated the possibility of another run for statewide office -- possibly attorney general in 2006 -- with close friends for some time, according to sources.
But his interest in running for governor, sources said, was sparked with news that the recall campaign of Davis qualified for the ballot — and the reluctance of any major Democratic candidate to take his place.
