Description | She's grateful for the show of support, but Secretary of State Betty Ireland says she won't run for the U-S Senate next year to challenge eight-term Democrat Robert C- Byrd.
Ireland has been courted by G-O-P officials and even been mentioned by national conservative columnists as a potential opponent against Byrd.
But Ireland says all that buzz is getting in the way of her doing her job as Secretary of State.
Sworn into office just nine months ago, Ireland says it should not be used as a political stepping stone. |
