DescriptionCook County Board President John Stroger has told his 8th Ward political organization "I'll be on the battlefield" in the 2006 Democratic primary.

After a County Board meeting Tuesday, Stroger gave every indication he'll seek a third term as president, though he stopped short of an official announcement.

Stroger, 76, confirmed he rallied his 8th Ward leaders Thursday, saying "I am ready to go" and he has "no fear of running," but "at the proper time, I will make a formal announcement."

He admitted he met Monday with Illinois State Democratic Party Chairman Mike Madigan and got "a very warm response" from his 13th Ward organization.
