Description | LITTLE FLOCK — This early in the 2006 election pre-season, little-known candidates won’t stop at much to cultivate a tiny bit of name recognition, from parading themselves with Dumas’ Ding Dong Daddies to stuffing their faces with Warren’s pink tomatoes.
On Saturday, several of the Democratic variety had it pretty easy: They served as "celebrity judges" in a patriotic cupcakedecorating contest at the 26th annual Little Flock Picnic in Benton County.
Only at a gathering of die-hard Democrats would these candidates be known as celebrities. None is well known statewide, and many of the 200 or so at the picnic were getting their first glimpses at the people they’ll be choosing between in a primary election that’s still more than nine months away.
"I’m Drew Pritt. I’m running for lieutenant governor," one enthusiastic candidate said to an early arrival at the picnic.
"Drew who?" Vern Watten of Bella Vista responded, looking up from assembling his lawn chairs for the evening’s festivities. |
