Description | The Supreme Court sweepstakes took an unusual turn Tuesday when first lady Laura Bush suggested that a woman fill the vacancy on the bench.
Her remark about the vacancy created by Justice Sandra Day O'Connor's retirement apparently surprised her husband, who has kept any nominee preferences a closely held secret.
"I would really like him to name another woman," the first lady said during an interview with NBC's Today show from Cape Town, South Africa. "I admire and respect Sandra Day O'Connor, but I know that my husband will pick somebody who has a lot of integrity and strength." |
