Description | Louisiana may be open for business in Gov. Kathleen Blanco's eyes, but there's one product lawmakers don't want the state peddling.
"The House believes that the state doesn't need to be in the condom distribution business," said state Rep. Gary Beard, R-Baton Rouge.
Beard introduced an amendment to the state's budget bill Thursday that would essentially make condoms contraband at the Office of Public Health. The agency would no longer be allowed to use federal dollars to buy and distribute condoms.
The House adopted the amendment without discussion.
