Description | Consumer Group says state lawmakers are considering a bill to force Wal-Mart to cover their employees health care costs, when those workers are accepted by BadgerCare
A representative of Wisconsin Citizen Action told 27 News state lawmakers are considering introducing a proposal to force Wal-Mart and other companies which fail to provide competitive employee health care plans to reimburse the state for the costs of providing their workers health care through the BadgerCare program.
An official with Wisconsin Citizen Action said 898 workers, more than 3% of Wal-Mart's workforce in Wisconsin, are recipients of BadgerCare. That official said no other company had as high a percentage of workers in BadgerCare. To be eligibile for BadgerCare, the head of a household must be working and making no more than 185% of the federal poverty level. |
