Description | "HARRISBURG | Democratic state Sen. Lisa Boscola is being recruited to change parties and has not dismissed the possibility.
The Bethlehem legislator was approached as recently as last week about becoming a Republican and said Tuesday that any party switch would ''[come] down to where I can be more effective … for the people back home.''
A Boscola defection could have profound implications for Senate Democrats, who will soon be at a 30-18 disadvantage. A defection would give the Republicans 31 seats, the most any party has held since the mid-1970s. A Boscola switch would put the GOP at 32 seats, two shy of a veto-proof majority. Gov. Ed Rendell is a Democrat."
