DescriptionColumnist Jon Monteith incorrectly hailed local gadfly and Urbana mayoral candidate Laurel Prussing's credentials as a "hardworking Democrat who relies on the support of her own party to win elections."

In 2000, Prussing lost the Democratic congressional primary election to Mike Kelleher but then bitterly refused to endorse him in the general election. Prussing's childishness contributed to Kelleher's very narrow loss to now-Rep. Tim Johnson. Then Prussing bolted the Democratic Party entirely to become a Green Party organizer for Ralph Nader's egotistical fit of political masturbation. Incredibly, she thought there was no real difference between George Bush and Al Gore. In my book, Prussing is no Democrat.

The second part of Monteith's claim is also false. Far from "winning elections," Laurel Prussing is a perennial loser. She hasn't won any office since 1992, when most UIUC students were still in elementary school, and she has lost all five of the races she entered thereafter.
