Description | It didn’t take new Attorney General Rob McKenna long to toss some actions in with his words of support for open government in Washington.
McKenna has said he wants to create a "culture of compliance" in the attorney general's office when it comes to the state public records law.
Even before he was sworn in, McKenna appointed an attorney as his in-house public records guru. That attorney, Greg Overstreet, has experience on the other side – fighting the state in court for records that should have been released without lawsuits. While representing the Building Industry Association of Washington, Overstreet battled Gov. Christine Gregoire when she was attorney general.
McKenna said Overstreet will be his "public records evangelist."
"My goal is to not have an agency sued successfully for violating the law in bad faith," McKenna said. "I just won't tolerate that." |
