Description | The whipping Democrats took statewide last Tuesday prompted Madison County's Democratic Party chairman Sunday to call for state party chair Redding Pitt to resign, and four of Alabama's top Democratic leaders joined the fray Monday night.
Doug Dermody, the Madison County Democratic Party chairman, e-mailed Pitt and other Democrats Sunday calling for Pitt to resign.
Lt. Gov. Lucy Baxley, Agriculture Commissioner Ron Sparks, House Speaker Seth Hammett and Senate President Pro Tem Lowell Barron signed a statement Monday calling for Pitt's resignation. They said Pitt should be replaced with someone who would be a stronger voice for the party in the 2006 elections.
