Description | "ASHLAND -- Republican Mary Connaughton chastised her Democratic opponent last night for promising to bring tax relief to seniors when he tried to pass a tax override amid empty threats of layoffs in the schools.
The Framingham Republican took her swing at Democrat Tom Sannicandro during a debate among the three candidates vying for the Framingham-Ashland House seat. Sannicandro said one of his top priorities would be pushing through a tax credit for seniors that would be based on their income.
Connaughton seized on his promise, questioning how he could fight for tax relief when he backed a $2.2 million override in Ashland last year and argued 22 school staffers would be laid off if it failed. It failed overwhelmingly, but no one lost a job."
