Description | Alan Keyes said Monday he doesn't have time to be "schmoozing" with members of the Illinois GOP, even though the U.S. Senate candidate is staying at the same Manhattan hotel as delegates attending the Republican National Convention.
The Maryland conservative activist has been doing a battery of national media interviews and attending political events in New York to generate interest and campaign funds for his uphill contest against Chicago Democrat Barack Obama. Keyes, a former presidential candidate and talk-show host, early this month accepted the Illinois Republican Party's invitation to be its nominee after candidate Jack Ryan withdrew.
