DescriptionJohn Kass is a conservative columnist
<hr>

"You are acting as a media surrogate for the Democratic Party!" said Keyes to me, hissing in anger when I asked him a question. "And when you ask questions that are aimed at achieving their purposes in the political battle, I have the right to ask who you speak for and who you represent."

I thought he knew that I worked for the Tribune, since I've interviewed him, but that wasn't good enough.

......

"The reason you're asking that question is because the media wants to attack the Republican Party!" he said. "You take approaches that are trying to sow the seed and impression of divisions within the party, to serve the purposes of the Democrats!"

.....

"You call Mr. Kass an agent of the Democratic Party?" Flannery said to Keyes. "You're the first politician I've ever encountered who has called him that!"

.....

"So the secret friendship between you and the mayor is out now?" remarked Republican businessman Ron Gidwitz of Chicago, who knows Daley well.

I'm sorry. I tried to keep it a secret.

"The only reason I never said anything is that I didn't want to embarrass the mayor," Gidwitz said. "But now, everybody knows. Everybody."

Other delegates, including state Sen. Dave Syverson (R-Rockford), a Keyes supporter, was amazed, as was Judy Baar Topinka, the chairman of the Illinois Republicans, who can't stand Keyes.
