Description | That kicked off the two-week sprint to decide who will win the GOP nomination to replace retiring Democrat Fritz Hollings in the U.S. Senate. And, foreshadowing the next two weeks, it took place in the strategically important Lowcountry, where voters are up for grabs.
Former Gov. David Beasley placed first in Tuesday’s primary election by 11 percentage points. DeMint came in second, fewer than 5,000 votes ahead of Ravenel.
But Wednesday, DeMint and Ravenel looked excited and energetic as they clasped hands at the Boulevard Diner.
DeMint and Beasley will compete in a June 22 runoff. The winner takes on Democrat Inez Tenenbaum in November. |
