Fortenberry, Connealy to face off in 1st District

Description | Former Lincoln City Council member Jeff Fortenberry won the crowded race for the Republican nomination in the 1st District congressional race.
With 99 percent of the precincts reporting Tuesday night, Fortenberry had 40 percent of the vote, compared to 33 percent for state Sen. Curt Bromm of Wahoo and 21 percent for Greg Ruehle, the executive director of the Nebraska Cattlemen.
Meanwhile, state Sen. Matt Connealy won the Democratic party nomination.
Connealy, a Decatur farmer, had 50 percent of the vote, while Fremont lawyer Janet Stewart had 33 percent.
Beatrice construction worker Charlie Matulka had 9 percent and Schuyler businessman Phil Chase had 7 percent.
Green Party candidate Steven Larrick was unchallenged. |
