Description | Is our Trent Lott, stripped by his party two years ago of his powerful Senate Majority Leader spot, going to step down when his third term ends in January, 2007?
That's the speculation coming out of Washington, and is even creeping into the political chatter down here.
Recently in his respected Washington-based Southern Political Report, Hastings Wyman gave the Lott retirement talk around the Capitol sizable attention, together with a list of several likely aspirants for the Senate seat.
Topping Wyman's list was former Attorney General Mike Moore, arguably the most popular Democratic political figure in Mississippi. Moore had made it known when he gave up his AG post last year that the U.S. Senate was the only other office he someday might seek.
