DescriptionCar dealer has big war chest

He may not have been the first Republican in this year's U.S. Senate campaign to air TV ads, but Republican Russ Darrow is the first to go on the air in a big way.

Darrow is now spending "hundreds of thousands of dollars" on radio and TV ads that began airing Wednesday in Madison, Milwaukee and Green Bay, said Eric Schutt, his campaign manager.

Darrow, one of four major Republican candidates vying to Replace incumbent Democrat Russ Feingold this fall, paints Feingold in the ads as an out-of-touch "tax and spend" liberal.

In contrast, the veteran Milwaukee area car dealer presents himself as a "a conservative, pro-life, low-tax, proud product of Wisconsin."
