Description | Flamboyant Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura said Tuesday night that his political career might have a second life if Independence Party candidate Tim Penny, Ventura's chosen successor, wins the governor's race this fall. But first, Penny may have to wrestle with an unexpected challenger – the U.S. Mint.
It certainly seems like the perfect idea for a political candidate named Penny, distributing campaign pins made from America's copper coin. But according to a spokesman for the Mint, the "Penny Pin," as the campaign items are called, may violate a federal law that restricts the attachment of advertisements to U.S. money. State law also prohibits candidates from handing out money in an election. |
