DescriptionWhat is Iraq Today?
Iraq Today is a weekly newspaper printed in Iraq, created to give ordinary Iraqis, rather than vested political interests, an influential voice in the governance of their country.

What are its principles?
Iraq Today stands for the interests of the people of Iraq, and their right to govern themselves. It supports the territorial integrity of the country, sustainable representative democracy, and a strong role in the economy for domestic companies.

How is the publication funded?
Seed funding from Iraq Today comes from Mina Corp, a British private investment firm. The newspaper also relies on advertising revenues and subscription fees.

Iraq Today does not accept funding from political interests or state agencies. It is a commercial publication that provides Iraqis with the opportunity to develop the critical tools that will be the basis of an open and stable political culture and economy.

Who owns it?
Iraq Today is owned by Mina Corp, a UK based private investment group, and Hussain Sinjari, the proprietor of the Al-Ahali Media Group, a committed democrat who has fought political oppression in Iraq for more than 25 years. The Al-Ahali Group comprises Al-Ahali ('the community' in Arabic), one of the first independent Arabic language newspapers published in Iraq under Saddam Hussain, as well as the opinion pollsters Fikri ('my thinking' in Arabic).

How often will it be published?
It has started as a weekly, but will be more frequently published as communications within Iraq permit.

Who is it aimed at?
Iraq Today is aimed at four readership groups: English speaking resident Iraqis, expatriates, non-resident diaspora Iraqis and non-resident investors and potential investors. An international audience is also being captured via our website.

Why is it in English?
Publishing in English was mainly a business decision. Approximately, 150-180 new Arabic newspapers have gone on sale in Baghdad since the end of the war. There are, by contrast, only three English newspapers. In addition, Iraq is ruled by a largely English-speaking occupying force, and an English-language newspaper is one of the few means for Iraqi people to communicate effectively with the coalition.

Who are the staff?
Our staff are almost entirely Iraqi, drawn from all segments of society. Although a few are professional journalists, most are not and have been selected for their integrity and desire to play a constructive role in the development of the country.
