DescriptionSince the 1920's the government documents section of the UCLA Library has been collecting printed ephemeral election materials distributed by campaigns for local, state, and federal offices and ballot measures affecting the Los Angeles area for inclusion into the Library's Campaign Literature Archive. In response to the rapid changes brought about by the Internet and the World Wide Web, the Archive began to evolve and expand in the late 1990's.

In 1998 the Archive began a project to capture and preserve campaign web sites. In 1999 a second project was initiated to begin to digitized the extensive print collection. Both the web sites and scanned digital images are made available to the public via the internet from the UCLA Library Online Campaign Literature Archive web site: [Link] .

In the fall of 2000, with the advice and assistance of the UCLA Digital Library Coordinator, it was decided to take the work done so far and translate it into a searchable image database. As of March 2003 this process is nearing completion.

Candidates or other election organizations who wish to contribute materials (either electronic or paper) to MGI's Campaign Literature collection should contact the Campaign Literature Librarian.
