Region artificially created from Vladimir Province (1796 to 1929) after the Province was abolished and split into separate regions, one of which was formalized as the Ivanovo Industrial Region (IPO) in January 1929, which itself was split in two on March 11, 1936 and renamed the Ivanovo Region (Ивановская область).
