| Description |
Kray formerly known as the Kuban Oblast at the time of the Russian Empire pre-1917, and still popularly known and locally termed as Kuban. Kuban was a short-lived anti-Bolshevik "white" (21 months) independent country called the Kuban People's Republic declared on February 16, 2018. Its independence was snuffed out by a Soviet Army invasion on November 7, 1919.
Nostalgia and anti-Communist sentiment have swelled into a somewhat successful movement to change Krasnodar's 'krai' status to the 'Kuban Republic'.
