Description |
This central Alberta riding includes the communities of Wetaskiwin, Camrose and Millet. The riding saw its boundaries altered somewhat in the 2004 redistribution: in the east it now extends only to Highway 834, while in the south it now includes the Samson and Montana First Nations. Communities include Millet, Camrose and Wetaskiwin.
With an average household income of $47,111, this is one of Alberta's poorest ridings. The percentage of low-income residents, at 10.5, is the provincial norm. Almost 16 per cent of the money here comes from government transfer payments. Retail and health and social services are the major employers. Nearly three-quarters of the population is Alberta-born, while fewer than six per cent are immigrants. Aboriginal peoples number 14 per cent of residents.
