Description |
This riding in east-central Alberta follows the Saskatchewan border and traces Highway 16 more than 100 kilometres west to Ranfurly. In the 2004 redistribution, a northwestern section was carved away, with Derwent, Beauvallon and Myrnam transferred to Lac la Biche-St. Paul. In the southwest, a section of the old Vegreville-Viking riding was added, including the communities of Viking and Kinsella. Other communities here include Vermilion, Lloydminster and Kitscoty.
Agriculture is the main industry in Vermilion-Lloydminster, followed by retail. Household incomes, at $57,603, are somewhat under the Alberta average. Seven per cent of residents are considered low income. Five per cent of residents are immigrants, with 46 per cent born in Alberta.
