Description |
This riding takes in the north half of the city of Red Deer, plus - following the 2004 redistribution - sizable areas to the north and east. Those boundaries now reach to the Blindman River in the north and the Red Deer River in the east. The south boundary, dividing this riding from Red Deer-South, is formed largely be 55th St., Ross St. and the Red Deer River.
Retail is the primary employer here, followed by the oil-and-gas sector. Household incomes average $57,041, somewhat beneath the provincial norm, and one in eight residents is considered low income. About 59 per cent of the population was born in Alberta, while about eight per cent are immigrants. Aboriginal peoples make up five per cent.
