Description |
This southern Calgary riding is bordered on the south by the city limits, on the east by the Bow River, on the north by Fish Creek, and on the west mostly by Macleod Trail and 14th Street. In the 2004 redistribution, Calgary-Hays was carved from the eastern reaches of the old Calgary-Shaw riding. The riding lost some areas to Calgary-Lougheed, while also gaining voters from that same riding.
Retail is the biggest employer here, followed by professional services. The average household earns $84,818 a year, and the rate of low income, 5.6 per cent, is well under the Alberta average. Almost 48 per cent of residents were born in Alberta, and about 16 per cent are immigrants.
