Description |
This east-central Calgary riding is bordered on the east by the city limits, on the south by Glenmore Trail, on the west by the Bow River and the CPR line, and on the north by 17th and 8th Avenues. The 2004 redistribution shifted many voters formerly of Calgary East into the north part of this riding, while voters formerly in the western part of Calgary-Fort now find themselves in Calgary-Egmont. With 41,392 residents, this is Alberta's third-most populous riding.
Manufacturing and retail are the major employers here, earning the average household $51,867 - significantly under the provincial average. In the riding, 18.3 per cent of residents are considered low income. About 16 per cent of the residents are immigrants, five per cent are aboriginal, and about 48 per cent were born in-province.
