Description This rural riding is in eastern Quebec. It runs from the St. Lawrence River to the Canadian-U.S. border. It contains the regional county municipalities of Kamouraska, L'Islet and Montmagny, and Rivière-du-Loup, including Cacouna Indian Reserve No. 22 and Whitworth Indian Reserve No. 21.

Manufacturing is the main industry, followed by other services. The average family income is $48,640 and unemployment is 8.9 per cent.

According to the 2001 census, almost 97 per cent of the population had French as their mother tongue, while only 0.28 per cent spoke English first. The total immigrant population is only 0.58 per cent. Almost 18 per cent of the population has less than a Grade 9 education. Almost 15 per cent of the population is more than 65 years of age.

This riding of Rivière-du-Loup-Montmagny was created in 2004 from 63 per cent of Kamouraska-Rivière-du-Loup-Témiscouata-Les Basques and 52 per cent of Bellechasse-Etchemins-Montmagny-L'Islet.

Population: 97,126

NOTE: Known as "Rivière-du-Loup-Montmagny" throughout the 2004 election, this riding's name was changed to "Montmagny-L'Islet-Kamouraska-Rivière-du-Loup" directly afterwards. The new name is said to be a more accurate reflection of the area.
