Description |
This riding contains the northeast corner of Winnipeg and the rural municipalities of West St. Paul to the northwest and East St. Paul to the northeast. The Red River runs through the riding, dividing West and East St. Paul. The southern boundary is Leila, McPhillips, Inkster, the Red River, Oakland, McLeod, Public Road, Perfanick Drive and the CP Rail line.
Manufacturing and retail services are the main industries in the riding, followed by health and social services.
Only eight per cent of the population cited Canadian as their ethnic origin. More than 18 per cent of the population are immigrants and 11 per cent are Ukrainian. The average family income was $68,349 in 2001 and unemployment was four per cent.
Winnipeg North-St. Paul riding was created in 1996 from: 47 per cent of Selkirk-Red River; 39 per cent of Winnipeg North and two per cent of Winnipeg-Transcona. In 2004, the riding became Kildonan-St. Paul.
