Among the responsibilities of the CSA are: (1) Serving as the senior military leader of the Army and all of its components. (5) Serving as a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) and providing independent military advice to the Secretary of Defense, President, and Congress. To the extent that such action does not impair the independence of the CSA in the performance as a member of the JCS, the CSA keeps the SA informed of military advice rendered by the JCS on matters affecting the DA. Informs the SA of significant military operations affecting the duties and responsibilities of the SA, subject to the authority, direction, and control of the Secretary of Defense.
