Description |
575-seat (560-seat before April 17, 2019 election) lower house of the People's Consultative Assembly. Finds its origins from a parliament (Volskaad) created for Indonesia during the Dutch colonial period until closed by the Japanese on March 8, 1942. Re-formed by the Central Indonesian National Committee on August 29, 1945 - 12 days after Indonesian independence was proclaimed.
Formal name is the People's Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR-RI). Members serve for five years.
