Description |
This urban riding is located east of Montreal, across the St. Lawrence River. It consists of that part of the city of Longueuil that was created from the former cities of St-Hubert and St-Bruno-de-Montarville. St-Hubert Airport is also in the riding.
Manufacturing, retail trade and the service sector are major employers in this riding. Average family income is $69,432 and unemployment is 5.7 per cent.
According to the 2001 census, 84 per cent of the population is francophone and eight per cent is anglophone.
There was no change in the 2004 redistribution. The riding of St-Hubert was created in 1986 from 54 per cent of Chambly, 21 per cent of La Prairie and 15 per cent of Longueuil. In 1996, 64 per cent of the riding was retained and 23 per cent of Chambly and a small area from Longueuil were added. A private member's bill passed in 1996 changed the riding name to St-Bruno-St-Hubert.
