Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is appointed by the President of Afghanistan for an indefinite term. CEO chairs weekly Minister's Council meetings which make policy recommendations to the President.
Extra-constitutional post was created for Afghani politician and former foreign minister, Abdullah Abdullah, in a unity government deal in 2014.
